If you have a certain aesthetic in mind for your bedroom, choosing the right furniture is an important part of your overall interior design. Your bed, of course, will likely be the focal point, but any other furniture you choose to add will have a huge effect on the final feel of the room too.

What bedroom furniture do you really need?

When you’re planning your new room, be realistic about the space you have available. It’s a good idea to decide where your bed will go first, and then work the rest of your furniture around it. Figure out your non-negotiable items, such as a wardrobe or a certain number of chests of drawers, and then see what space you have left. Are you hoping to add a dressing table? Or would it just gather clutter? Perhaps you’d prefer to use that space to add a small sofa to create a reading nook, or a free standing lamp to create a cosier ambience?

Remember – your ideal bedroom is as unique as you are, so if you’re starting from scratch and re-decorating from top to bottom, take some time to figure out what sort of personality you want the room to have. (And if you share the room with anyone else, be sure to let them have some input too!)

Here are some bedroom styles to consider if you’re in need of inspiration:

The Minimalist

While interior designers may not agree, most sleep specialists will tell you that the best bedroom is a minimalist bedroom. A calming, serene space is far more conducive to a good night’s sleep than one that’s full of colour and pattern.

Minimalism doesn’t have to mean boring though! Our Maine bedroom furniture is perennially popular because of its simple, clean lines that lend themselves beautifully to a fuss-free, minimalist style. They’re spacious pieces too, so you could probably get by with just a wardrobe and a chest of drawers if you want to keep your room uncluttered. The range comes in a chic dove grey or classic surf white, and either look great teamed with one of our simple wooden beds. Dress it with crisp white linen, perhaps add a lush leafy green plant or two and you’ll be on your way to a relaxing and zen retreat from the world.

The Traditionalist

If you want a traditional look in the bedroom, you might prefer something like our Salerno oak bedroom furniture. This range includes a wardrobe, a chest of drawers and bedside tables for a modern take on a traditional look.

While they're certainly quite classic pieces, they’re adaptable too, and neutral enough to complement whatever colour scheme you like best.

The Contemporary Chic

If you’re after a bedroom with a contemporary, effortlessly elegant and modern vibe, with sleek, clean-cut lines and a stylish gloss finish, you can choose from wardrobes, drawers and bedside tables to put together your perfect combination. Available in classic white or chic grey, they’re both inconspicuous enough to blend in if you’re planning to add a feature wall or some other statement pop of colour, but trendy enough to look great on their own too.

The Romantic

Is there anything more romantic than a four poster bed? It’s a gorgeous statement piece, but it's certainly a big one! To keep the focus on your gorgeous bed, you’ll probably want to choose other furniture that’s in-keeping with the romantic style, but simple in its elegance so as not to overpower your space. Our Cameo bedroom furniture is ideal – it has enough detail to tie in with the intricacies of the bed posts, but it’s still simple enough to balance it out. And there’s a great variety of pieces to choose from too – three door wardrobes, combination wardrobes, drawers, bedside cabinets and even a dressing table and matching stool to finish off your romantic chic boudoir of dreams.

Of course, a four-poster bed wouldn’t be complete without plenty of pillows and soft furnishings in all your favourite colours, and if you really want to go all out, why not wind some fairy lights around the posts too?

If you don’t have the space for a four-poster, wrought iron metal beds with intricate headboards can be equally romantic, and they offer the same opportunity to add fairy lights or even faux flower garlands for an extra decorative touch.

The Blank Canvas

There are few things as chic as simple black and white décor to really make a room pop. It’s an ideal option for a guest bedroom as it’s neutral enough to appeal to pretty much any guest you have to stay. Our Radley bedroom furniture comes in a stunning dark grey as well as white, and lends itself beautifully to a monochromatic scheme.

If you can’t resist a pop of colour, perhaps think about adding a brightly patterned bedspread, or use other soft furnishings to the same effect. Alternatively, if you’ve got free wall space, you could hang a colourful print or piece of art to add a little personality and flair to your understated aesthetic.

Whatever sort of personality you decide to inject into your bedroom, don’t forget the importance of choosing a quality, comfortable bed that’s built to last. All of our bespoke beds have a 12-year guarantee and are handcrafted with care on site at our own workshop in West Norfolk. Endurance Beds have over 13 years of experience in crafting beautiful beds that help people enjoy a great night’s sleep, whatever their style, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’re in need of a wonderful new bed of your own.
